More coming soon....
My roots are wild and Greek-Cypriot but a strict upbringing in Australia had me seeking freedom in fantasy writing. My stories fared well - even gaining a Distinction by the Sydney Morning Herald for the Young Writer Competition in 1988.
In my twenties, whilst studying for my BA in English from Royal Holloway, University of London, I stopped submitting, stung by a few poetry rejections. Privately though, my writing flowed, feeding my love of re-imagined mythology in the hours I wasn't teaching. It wasn’t until two decades later, aged 42 and armed with a tougher hide, a husband, two sons and living in the forests of Cyprus, that I returned to submitting.
In these last three years, my writing has been shortlisted for Bridport, Bournemouth Prize (twice), and longlisted for Mslexia, Commonwealth, Fish Publications and top 15% First Pages Prize. I’ve also written for the Royal Society of Literature, Mslexia and had works published in the Fresher Anthology, 100 Words of Solitude, Winding Roads, In Focus and Cadences Literary Journal.
In 2020, I was one of three Cypriots selected by the Commonwealth Foundation for a one-to-one mentorship with Jennifer Makumbi. This has hugely helped with the re-imagined myth novel I’m currently working on.
Wild landscapes, storms and houses in the middle of nowhere inspire my best writing - even if they don't feature in the story.
